THE SPARK

In the Spark mentorship program, we pair STEM college students or STEM professionals mentors with a small group of 4-6 mentees. The mentor and mentees meet once a week for four weeks, and each meeting lasts about an hour. During these meetings, the mentor leads discussions about why girls and underrepresented in STEM, how the gender gap in STEM can be bridged, and why STEM is such a valuable and rewarding field. The mentors also helps the mentees complete simple STEM projects to spark their curiosity and help them fall in love with STEM.

FOR MENTORS

We provide mentors with prompts to lead discussions, and links and suggestions on how to conduct various simple STEM projects. One only needs to know middle school math and science to be able to serve as a mentor. For high schoolers and college students, hours spent mentoring can count towards your institution’s community service requirements.

FOR MENTEES

The Spark mentorship program is a simple and exciting way for girls in grade 4-10 to discover their passion for STEM. Mentees will get to meet peers who share their STEM interests, as well as connect with experienced college students and STEM professionals who can give career advice, motivation and other support.
